Pieces of the World (Marta Bagratuni)
A debut album from cellist Marta Bagratuni challenges the traditional concept of a classical music CD, with an across-borders exploration of the traditional and the groundbreaking. With a track list that offers repertoire spanning three hundred years from 18th century Jean Barriere to the music of today, the album presents an eclectic program of works from 13 different countries – adhering to its title. "Pieces of the World" also unveils a new work written for the young cellist by Armenian composer Vache Sharafyan, which features percussion and presents Marta both as a cellist and a soprano, calling upon the performer to sing.
