C Minor Progression (Peter Miyamoto)
Piano Works in the Key of C Minor by Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert

Piano Works in the Key of C Minor by Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert
The works on this recording inhabit the tumultuous tonality of C minor, and contain some of the most romantic music by three composers of the Classical era advancing music towards the nineteenth century. Mozart seemed to reserve the key for his most dramatic and personal music. Of Mozart’s twenty-seven piano concerti, and eighteen piano sonatas, only four are in minor keys, of which two are in C minor. Beethoven’s works in the C minor tonality are among his most iconic, including the Fifth Symphony, “Pathétique” Sonata, Op. 13 as well as his last Piano Sonata in C Minor, Op. 111. Schubert’s Sonata in C Minor, written in the last months of his life when the composer fully aware of his impending death, intentionally invokes Beethoven’s C minor world, even referencing the variation set on this recording.
