Vedrana Subotić’s “Chiaroscuro” is Featured on WQXR
WQXR, the powerhouse classical radio station in New York City, features “Chiaroscuro” on its regular web feature, “Have You Heard”. The tracks from the album will be featured on the radio throughout the week. The radio station has 350,000 listeners each week.
“Croatian-American pianist Vedrana Subotić explores her past in her new album, Chiaroscuro. She delves into her cultural heritage with new arrangements of folk songs from the region of former Yugoslavia. She revisits her childhood, by choosing pieces her mother would sing as learned them on the piano. The album oscillates between lively pieces full of motion and complex rhythm, and more contemplative moments. It culminates in Liszt’s Sonata in B Minor. Just like Subotić, Liszt used his cultural roots as inspiration for the piece. I love to think about how just like these artists who lived more than a century apart, humans have always been inspired by our own histories.” - - Laura Boyman, Associate Producer
