The compositions on this recording were written by towering figures of the pianistic pantheon, virtually unknown as composers. Dinu Lipatti’s Fantaisie, Op. 8 and Artur Schnabel’s Piece in Seven Movements (often confused with his much shorter Seven Pieces) are substantial works, each lasting close to thirty minutes. Glenn Gould’s Sonata is his largest work for solo piano. All three works are composed in modern, atonal idioms
